Kazakh song “Farida” performed by Chinese blogger goes viral on social media

Kazakh song “Farida”, performed by Chinese blogger Dong Zhu at a wedding of his elder brother last week, garnered millions of views on TikTok, Kazinform News Agency reports.

23-year-old Dong Zhu lives in China’s Sichuan province, which borders on the Tibet Autonomous Region.

I have never been to Kazakhstan. I know that many Kazakhs live in China, and your language is similar to Uyghur. I have been singing songs since my childhood, it's my hobby. I sing Dungan, Chinese, Kazakh, and Uyghur songs. I especially like melodic songs, Dong Zhu says in an interview with Kazinform correspondent.

The song “Farida” was first performed by Kazakhstan’s MuzART band in 2003. The Chinese blogger used a new musical arrangement by Gazizkhan Shekerbekov.

This video clip gathered some 10 million views on Chinese social media, mostly among the residents of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and it was broadcast on the radio of  Ili  city in Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture of the XUAR. The video clip became viral on other social media in China, he adds.

In his words, his account gained some 20,000 new followers in the past three days.
