Kazakh Senate Speaker makes a speech at "Energy Security and Environment" conference in Athens

Senate Chairman, Vice Speaker of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made a speech on this topic. He noted that in the process of globalization energy turns to be the main part of international diplomacy. He said that "when geopolitics is based on the attempts to gain access to energy resources the only imperative for all countries - producing, consuming and developing ones - should become the environmental protection". "In this context development of renewable energy sources becomes a top priority", K. Tokayev stressed.

Having pointed out that in June 2009 the Parliament of Kazakhstan adopted the law on support of alternative energy sources, Mr. Tokayev expressed an opinion that activity of the European Commission on updating the priorities of the EU regional strategy in the field of energy would promote development of renewable energy sources in the region.
