Kazakh Sec of State-FM held consultations and meetings in New York
During the consultations with the CSTO foreign ministers the joint activities on the issues on the agenda of the current 64th session of the UN General Assembly were discussed. Besides, the sides considered the progress of preparation for the forthcoming Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE. The Secretary of State told about Kazakhstan's vision and priorities concerning its leadership over the OSCE in 2010. He noted the state's readiness to continue cooperation with the CSTO partners. The sides agreed to keep on coordination of joint activities in ensuring regional and global security.
K. Saudabayev finished his visit to New York with the talks with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The parties discussed the issues of cooperation both in bilateral and multilateral formats. Mrs. Clinton expressed interest of the USA in further expansion and deepening of bilateral relations in various spheres. In particular she pointed out that "the USA value the Kazakh President's generous appeal for development of an Agreement on comprehensive horizontal and vertical nuclear nonproliferation. Kazakhstan is an acknowledged leader in the sphere of nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation. We hope for further strengthening of interaction in this sphere. Our countries share view on a world without nuclear weapons". In this context it was noted the importance of the US Global Summit on Nuclear Safety planned for spring 2010 and participation of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in it.
Hillary Clinton emphasized that the United States are grateful to Kazakhstan for the help in strengthening of the regional security and promotion of efforts of the international coalition in Afghanistan, including participation in the cargo carriage system in the country. In this context Kazakhstan's plan to support Afghanistan stabilization was confirmed, including within the framework of the educational program for the Afghan specialists.
Preparation for Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE became an important issue of the negotiations of the foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and the USA. As K.Saudabayev noted, the successful chairmanship of the country in this authoritative international organization will be considered as success of all 56 member-states. Kazakhstan will stand for strengthening the Organization's unity, consensus principles and equivalent balance of all three dimensions of the OSCE. The sides noted priority of such issues like Afghanistan stabilization, protracted conflicts on the OSCE territory, cross-border security, tolerance, struggle against human trafficking and transport links development.
H.Clinton conveyed the best wishes to Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev and gratefully accepted the invitation of the Kazakh colleague to visit Kazakhstan. As is known, she visited our country as the First Lady of the USA in 1998. In this connection she expressed interest in deeper acquaintance with the country's achievements for the past years.
