Kazakh President received Secretary General of the Council of Europe

According to the President, the meeting is held on the eve of the international forum for nuclear-free world. For Kazakhstan this is a very important event. The President stressed that Kazakhstan as a country that has closed the nuclear test site and abandoned nuclear weapons, has a moral right to host such forums. Recently, speaking at the meeting of UN General Assembly, the Kazakh President suggested the establishment of a global movement for nuclear-free world.

Thorbjorn Jagland stressed that he personally and many people in Europe appreciate the role Kazakhstan plays in the region as a stabilizing force. Kazakhstan is an example of how many ethnic groups can live together in peace and harmony.

The Secretary General noted that a unilateral renunciation of nuclear arsenal is a remarkable step that has historical significance. This initiative is very important, especially in the global campaign to free the world from nuclear weapons. Mr. Jagland expressed hope that Kazakhstan will continue to be active in the global process of nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation.

He emphasized that Kazakhstan made impressive progress and became a well-known dynamic state not only in the region, but also in the international arena.
