The treaty, signed in 2009 in the Turkish capital Ankara, covers political, economic, defense, cultural, scientific and education spheres.

Both countries "will cooperate bilaterally, regionally and internationally to combat the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, terrorism, transnational organized crime, and drug and human trafficking," said the committee for international affairs, defense and security of the Majlis, the lower chamber of the Kazakh parliament.

The treaty will enhance bilateral cooperation as well as promote the interests of the two countries in southeastern Europe and the Middle East, the committee said in a report. Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
