Kazakh President and British Premier presented Sensabot robot
As explained by the Managing Director of "North Caspian Operating Company BV" Pierre Offan, taking into account the high pressure in the field, as well as the toxic nature of the fluids the Kashagan consortium is developing a "SensaBot" - a remote-controlled robot - designed by special order in the National Robotics Center ("NRC") (Pittsburg, USA) in collaboration with Shell Global Solutions.
In order to transfer technology and increase the proportion of local content "NCOC" company endorsed the contract with the Nazarbayev University on the works to ensure wireless network for implementation of the project.
Development of "SensaBot," the first of its kind of such equipment in oil projects, has taken two and a half years. SensaBot is a prime example of "technological innovation", designed specifically for the Kashagan project. Recently SensaBot as the latest technology has been demonstrated to the United States President Barack Obama, who visited the NRC. The American President left his signature on the robot in recognition of the role of innovation in development of future technologies.
SensaBot, intended for use on the islands of the Kashagan project, where there is no permanent service and operational personnel, provides a more rapid and effective response to any emergencies, as well as regular monitoring of production activities.
At the first stage the remote-controlled SensaBot will be equipped with gas sensors and vibration, as well as eight cameras which will allow to inspect at any time of the day. This part of the project will be ready for implementation by the end of 2014.
