Kazakh PM says 'no' to facilities without suitable conditions for disabled

ASTANA. May 28. KAZINFORM Prime Minster of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov gave some instructions to the Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Transport and Communications concerning the access of people with disabilities to social facilities and public service vehicles.

Speaking at the Government's session, Akhmetov pointed out the necessity to provide the access of disabled persons to residential premises, educational, health, culture and sport facilities.

According to Serik Akhmetov, as of 1 January 2013 following the certification of persons with disabilities, they had access to 11.5 thousand driveways in the country. Besides, about 35% of ramps, pedestrian crossings were equipped with 702 audio devices (15%). There were 944 special buses for people with disabilities (6.5 %).

The Kazakh Prime Ministered stressed 'there a lot of special ramps, but they are not good at all.'

The Head of the Government brought to notice public service vehicles too. Buses should be equipped with the priority seats for disabled; they should be able to embus and get out of the bus as well.
