Kazakh PM Bektenov instructs to enhance joint work on green economy transition

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov of Kazakhstan chaired a meeting of the Council on the transition to a green economy focusing on the realization of the President’s tasks aimed at preserving environmental balance and ensuring sustainable socio-economic progress of the country, primeminister.kz reports.

During the meeting, Bektenov tasks to consider the suggestions voiced by the expert community and enhance joint work on transition to a green economy. The importance of addressing environmental issues to improve the standard of life of the population was highlighted.

The Head of State set before us the task to transition to a green economy, which is a matter of not only environmental sustainability, but also a long-term economic development. It’s necessary to reduce the negative impact of production factors on the population of the country, while creating conditions to implement innovative technologies, ensure dynamic industrial growth, said Bektenov.

The head of the Kazakh government instructed the regional administrations and interested central state bodies to ensure quality and timely implementation of the action plan to achieve green economy indicators.

The meeting also discussed prospects for promoting nuclear and hydrogen energy.

Earlier it was reported that East Kazakhstan is set to build five hydroelectric power stations by 2030.
