Kazakh parliamentarians interested in strengthening cooperation with the UK
A wide range of the Kazakh-British cooperation issues was discussed at the meeting. The sides stressed the intentions of the two countries to lead bilateral relations to a brand new level of strategical partnership.
Today, Great Britain is one of the largest investors to Kazakhstan's economy. Interaction of both countries in the sphere of education and science is developing. Currently, about four thousand of Kazakh students are studying at British universities within the Bolashak Scholarship Program.
Dr. Carolyn Browne expressed confidence that the dynamics of development will allow Kazakhstan to join the number of twenty four countries of the future.
The sides paid great attention to the regional security issues and stressed that Kazakhstan and Great Britain share common stance on many topics.
The Majilis Speaker noted the cooperation between the two countries on the transit of military personnel and property of those involved in the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. In this regard, the British Ambassador appreciated the work that had been done.
A separate topic of their conversation was the interparliamentary cooperation. "We are very interested in the experience of our British colleague in terms of the provision of legislative reforms," the Chairman of the Majilis said.
Besides, Mr. Nigmatulin added that the interaction between Kazakhstan and the British Parliament creates a solid foundation for the development of relations between the two countries. In this regard, the parliaments of Kazakhstan and the UK formed a cooperation group.
Following the meeting, agreement was reached on practical steps to enhance cooperation between the parliamentary groups.
