BRUSSELS. June 17. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ On Thursday, June 16, the Kazakh memorial to the victims of nuclear tests was unveiled in Ypres, Belgium, in the city where the weapons of mass annihilation were used first.
The Kazakh gift to Belgium was announced during President Nazarbayev's meeting with Belgium's Prime Minister Yves Leterme in October 2010. The monument is erected now in one of the most famous museums of Belgium and Europe, In Flanders Fields.
According to Kazakh Ambassador to Belgium and Luxemburg, head of the Kazakh Mission to the EU and NATO Yerik Utembayev, the European Union highly appreciates President Nursultan Nazarbayev's contribution to the nuclear disarmament. And today's unveiling in Ypres once again bespeaks inalterability of the Kazakh President's policy in the field of global disarmament.
