Kazakh-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission held third session
The session was opened by co-chairmen of the Commission - Executive Secretary of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Rapil Zhoshybayev from the Kazakh side, Minister of Transport Kaspars Gerhards from the Latvian side.
The heads of the delegations complimented progressive character of trade and economic and scientific-technical cooperation, appraising the implementation process of agreements of the second session of the Kazakh-Latvian Commission. A wide range of issues of interaction in such fields as transport, transit, entrepreneurship, standardization, education and science, healthcare, social protection of the population and environment protection was discussed.
The sides agreed to open a branch of the Latvian Institute of Transport and Telecommunication in Uralsk city on the basis of civil aviation technical college.
The innovative and communication technologies sphere was defined as one of the most perspective directions for cooperation. In this regard, development of cooperation in the field of high-tech manufacturing at the territory of "Information Technologies Park" Special Economic Zone in Almaty was suggested.
The Latvian side expressed interest in establishment of the Kazakh-Latvian Joint Council on Business Cooperation.
Protocol outlining the most perspective dimensions of further development of bilateral trade-economic cooperation was signed upon the results of the session.
Business seminar where businessmen and experts of two states exchanged information on prospects for bilateral cooperation was held within the session as well. The Kazakh delegation held meetings with the leadership of the Port of Riga, international airport and "Air Baltic" Air Company.
