Kazakh Internal Ministry developed amendments to legislation increasing penalties for human trafficking

Deputy head of the Criminal Police Committee of the Internal Affairs Ministry Yerlan Omarbekov stated that the draft law envisaged amendments to the Criminal, the Criminal Procedure and the Labour Codes, the Code of Administrative Offences. Provisions of the bill are aimed at strengthening the criminal responsibility for crimes related to human trafficking, protection of rights and interests of victims of crimes in the field of ​​trafficking in persons, including minors.

In addition, the amendments are intended to implement in the Kazakh legislation certain provisions of the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children, Women and Children, supplementing the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. The Convention was ratified by Kazakhstan in 2008.
