Kazakh Government to hold session devoted to second national population census

ASTANA. January 13. KAZINFORM /Bauyrzhan Mukanov/ Kazakh Government will dedicate its special session to the second national population census of Kazakhstan in February this year. Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov has made it public today at the extended session of the Kazakh Statistics Agency.

?We will hold the Government?s session on the issue of population census with the participation of akims. Approximately, it will take place on February 2?, K. Massimov said. As reported earlier, the second national population census will take place from February 25 till March 6, 2009. Since Kazakhstan gained independence the first population census took place on February 25-March 4, 1999 ten years after the All-Soviet Union Census. 14 mln 953 thousand residents were registered in Kazakhstan in 1999. According to the Kazakh Statistics Agency, to July 1, 2008 the Kazakhstan?s population counts 15 mln 677 thousand people including ? 619 thousand people in Astana, 1 mln 344 thousand people in Almaty. Totally, over KZT 6 bln will be allocated for the population census. Its results will become known in July 2009.
