Kazakh Government adopts 2030 Safe Work Concept

Some 500,000 people in Kazakhstan are working in harmful labor conditions. Every year almost 2,000 people suffer from work-related injuries. Over 200 work-related deaths occur annually in Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency quotes Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov as saying.

To resolve this problem the Kazakh Government adopted the 2030 Safe Work Concept.

The Prime Minister said automation technologies helped reduce work-related injuries in the OECD countries, while Kazakhstan reveals a high rate of industrial accidents. For example, this year Kazakhmys Company recorded a three-fold increase in workplace injuries as compared to the previous year. Work-related deaths grew sevenfold at the formerly known ArcelorMittal Temirtau Company.

He stressed that only 32% of enterprises insured the lives of their employees.

The Prime Minister added the 2030 Safe Work Concept is aimed firstly at reducing the level of professional risk, industrial accidents, and work-related illnesses.

As the Labor and Social Protection Minister Svetlana Zhakupova said, the concept covers four work safety management system development areas.
