Kazakh Government admits lack of PE at schools

ASTANA. July 9. KAZINFORM Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov has criticized the lack of physical education at secondary schools of the country, stating the schools should offer at least three hours of obligatory PE classes per week.
During the Government's meeting on Tuesday, Premier Akhmetov noted "at least three hours of physical education should be offered to students of secondary schools in Kazakhstan. "Governors of the regions and educational authorities will be instructed accordingly to build new and upgrade the existing sports facilities until 2015, so that children could go into sports at least three hours per week," the head of the Cabinet said.
Prior to this, Minister of Education and Science of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Zhumagulov reported that schools in the country are poorly equipped and do not have the necessary conditions to introduce three hours of PE sessions.
