Kazakh ex-Ambassador Rakhat Aliyev will account for money laundering, kidnapping and murder
As reported by a number of Kazakhstan and foreign mass media, the ex-ambassador did not appear at the hearing, though his attorney had said earlier to the Austrian reporters that Aliyev, who, they say, in Malta, was ready to appear before the court and answer all questions of the Austrian Themis.
However, it appears that none of the legal profession doubt that after the decision of the Vienna Court of 17 December last year when in fact he has been confirmed in the direct involvement in money laundering, creation and management of the organized crime group, he will be absconding.
We remind that the Supreme Court of the Federal State of Vienna in its decision recognized that the previous investigation and action on court decisions against Rakhat Aliyev in Kazakhstan had not been politically motivated (As you know, at home, he was found guilty of a number of the most serious crimes and sentenced to a total of 40 years in prison.)
Kazakhstan addressed the Austrian law enforcement authorities to request the extradition of such a dangerous criminal, but at that time the request was rejected. But also in Austria the authorities conducted their own investigation, the findings of which only confirmed the suspicions against Aliyev-Shoraza (named after his second wife) in the creation and management of criminal association in Kazakhstan, which appropriated another person's property by extortion, abuse and fraud.
Money (and it was a three-digit million in euros and dollars), obtained by criminal or even a bloody way, as in the case of murdered by Aliyev and his henchmen the top managers of "Nurbank", and then invested in various projects in Europe. Naturally, as soon as the facts were made public in the Western media, they caused quite legitimate concerns of the European public.
So, one of the lawyers for Aliyev's victims, a former Interior Minister of Germany Dr. Otto Schily, in the interview with the Austrian press has called the fact that Rakhat Aliyev still has the ability (through the Austrian passport, alien) for easy movement in Europe ominous. According to him, the arrest warrant as a dangerous person had to be issued a long time ago.
Another Austrian lawyer, Dr. Lansky, at the recent press conference in Almaty gave even more negative psychological characteristics of Aliyev's criminal personality and said that he would do everything possible to put him into jail. It is hoped that in the coming days the Austrian Themis will make a decision that will send Rakhat Aliyev to jail, as he had long deserved.
