Kazakh Embassy initiated Semey-Hiroshima live link-up

ASTANA. August 27. KAZINFORM Today the Kazakh Embassy to Japan initiated a live link-up "Semey -Hiroshima" dated both to the International Day against Nuclear Tests, celebrated on August 29, and 20th anniversary of the closure of Semipalatinsk nuclear testing range.

The event was organized under the auspices of the Semey State Medical University and Hiroshima-Semey Project NGO, the Kazakh MFA's press service reports. It brought together leading nuclear and radiation safety experts and scientists, NGO and media reps.

Those attending highlighted significance of the historic decision of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to close Semipalatinsk nuclear range back to August 29, 1991, and contribution of Kazakhstan, that voluntarily abandoned nuclear arsenal, to strengthening global security.

Besides, a photo exhibition featuring consequences of Semipalatinsk nuclear tests and Kazakhstan's contribution to global security has started its work there too.
