Kazakh Embassy in Ashgabat holds briefing on Constitution Day and Int'l Day against Nuclear Tests

ASTANA. August 29. KAZINFORM - In Ashgabat the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan hosted a briefing on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the International Day against Nuclear Tests, says the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

In a briefing with the participation of government representatives of Turkmenistan, the diplomatic corps and media accredited in the host country, there was a speech of the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan Orman Nurbaev.

During his speech Mr. Nurbaev informed the participants about the dynamic development, foreign policy initiatives of Kazakhstan, the state and prospects of Kazakh-Turkmen relations .

Atention was paid to early completion of the construction of the railway called "Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan - Iran", the Kazakh-Turkmen portion of which was opened during the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan G. Berdimuhamedov to Kazakhstan on May 10-11 this year.

Kazakh Ambassador also informed the audience about implementation of the agreements on the opening of a consular post of Kazakhstan in Turkmenbashi city and Turkmenistan consulate in Aktau .

Special focus was made on the initiatives of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Kazakhstan's role in non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in the world . It was noted that in 1991 Nursultan Nazarbayev issued a decree permanently closing the Semipalatinsk test site, one of the largest nuclear test sites in the world.

Also, during his speech Ambassador presented in detail Kazakhstan's Project "ATOM".

In addition, the audience was informed about the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, Kazakhstan's candidacy for non-permanent membership in the Security Council of the United Nations in 2017-2018 and the holding of the World Petroleum Congress in 2017 in Astana.
