Kazakh Education Ministry and British Council held seminar on science in Astana

ASTANA. April 5. KAZINFORM - Astana hosted the seminar on knowledge sharing and the formation of international partnerships in science, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science, in partnership with the British Council. The seminar strengthened the cooperation between scientists of Kazakhstan and the UK and identified potential opportunities for strategic partnerships in the priority areas of science, such as energy, raw material processing, information and communications technology.

The arrangement was attended by about 300 scientists from Kazakhstan, as well as scholars UK, USA, Russia, Germany, Argentina, Spain, South Korea.

The workshop included presentations on the current state of research in priority areas, standards, research, and the benefits of participation in international research projects, to discuss the prospects of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom in the field of research, as well as parallel sessions of universities in Kazakhstan, Europe and the U.S..

"As a result of joint meetings of the British Council, the National Center for State scientific and technical expertise and universities of Kazakhstan, and also taking into account the objectives set out in the State Program of Education Development of Kazakhstan, it has become obvious that the strengthening of cooperation in the field of research will be beneficial for Kazakhstan and the UK. This will help scientists of our countries to work together on a world-class research and thus improve the international reputation, " said Simon Williams, Director of the British Council.

Within the workshop the lecturers of leading universities are planning workshops on filling in the applications for funding, provided by local and foreign sources of grant support for research. Conducting similar workshops will create an interactive platform between Kazakh scientists and leading scientists of the universities and research foundations of the world.

The seminar titled "Sharing knowledge and formation of international partnerships in science" is the first of a series of events scheduled by the Ministry of Education and Science with the British Council to expand international research partnerships between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom as part of the British Council internationalization of higher education.

The project on the internationalization of higher education is being carried out in accordance with the State Program of Education of Kazakhstan for 2011-2020. One of the priorities of the program is the transition to university research model, and the activities will be based on the integration of education, science and industry.
