Kazakh chess GM Kazybek Nogerbek wins bronze at Festival International des Jeux 2025 in France
Kazakh grandmaster (GM) Kazybek Nogerbek from Astana claimed a bronze medal at the Festival International des Jeux 2025 in Cannes, France, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the city’s akimat.

The 20-year-old Nogerbek scored 7 points after 9 rounds, securing third place in the tournament.
In the final stage, Kazakh GM Kazybek Nogerbek faced 24-year-old GM Alisher Suleymenov fascinating the audience with one of the most exciting matches of the event which ended in a draw.
As reported earlier, a new branch of the Chess Academy of the well-known chess player, five-time world champion Zhansaya Abdumalik, was opened in Zhezkazgan, Ulytau region. The Chess Academy in Zhezkazgan is one the largest academies in Kazakhstan. It will train some 1,000 children aged 5-18 years old from Ulytau region.
