Kazakh capital to host 2024 World SAMBO Championships
The 2024 World SAMBO Championships will be held in the Kazakh capital of Astana between November 8-10, Kazinform News Agency has learned from the press service of the capital’s akimat.

The tournament including men's and women's sport sambo, men's and women's combat sambo, and men's SVI-1 (totally blind athletes) blind sambo will be hosted at the Wrestling Palace named after Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov.
31 sets of medals are to be up for grabs. The competition will bring together athletes from 80 countries.
The teams will complete the accreditation and hotel check-in process on November 6-7. Training camps will commence in Astana on October 25.
A major feature of the 2024 World SAMBO Championships is that women will participate in combat sambo for the first time, as well as the blind athletes will be vying for the awards. Additionally, the World Championships will serve as the final qualifying tournament for the World Games 2025 Chengdu in the People's Republic of China.
Competitions will be held in the following weight categories:
- Sport Sambo (men): 58kg, 64kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg, +98kg;
- Sport Sambo (women): 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg , +80 kg;
- Combat Sambo (men): 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg;
- Combat Sambo (women): 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg, +80 kg;
- Blind Sambo (men’s SVI-1): 64 kg, 79 kg, 98 kg.
