Kazakh and Russian Defense Ministers signed Cooperation Plan for 2011

A. Dzhaksybekov net with Minister of Defense of Russia Anatoly Serdyukov. The Heads of the ministries considered a number of issues and signed a Cooperation Plan between the Ministries of Defense of Russia and Kazakhstan for 2011.

The sides discussed issues on interaction in military-space sphere. It touched upon cooperation and use of the GLONASS system and participation of Kazakhstan in the system of information warning of missile attack and in space control.

'Military cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia has been held since 1994 when the agreement on military cooperation was signed between Kazakhstan and Russia. Besides, it is based on the Agreement between the Governments of Kazakhstan and Russia and on annually signed Cooperation Plan', the Defense Minister of Kazakhstan said adding that taking into account strategic direction of the relation in the sphere, one of the priorities was cooperation in joint military exercises held by our countries aimed at strengthening interaction in the sphere of regional security and defense, countering terrorism and extremism.

During the year of 2010 three joint military exercises were held.

The same number of drills is planned for the next year.

Presently, more than 60 documents have been signed on different aspects of military and military- technical cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia.
