Kazakh and Qatar leaders note wide prospects for stepping up coop

ASTANA. January 19. KAZINFORM Leaders of Kazakhstan and Qatar have met today in Astana to discuss the main directions for bilateral cooperation, in particular, in investment and trade-economic areas, the President's press service said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev and Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani noted the wide prospects for stepping up cooperation between the two countries through realization of joint projects. Emir of Qatar expressed gratitude for the meeting and warm hospitality, and extended greetings of his father Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. "Since gaining its independence Kazakhstan has improved its economy raising it up to USD 230 bln. Despite the crisis the GDP growth makes 6%. Today Kazakhstan is one of the fast growing economies of the world," the President of Kazakhstan said during the talks. In his turn, the Emir of Qatar underlined that the meeting will contribute to further development of cooperation between the countries. He also noted the parties will also debate bilateral issues and situation in the region. The high-level meeting is called to determine new promising directions of bilateral cooperation. As earlier reported, the Convention for the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income between the Government of Kazakhstan and the Government of the State of Qatar and corresponding Protocol, the Cooperation Agreement between "NC "Tau Ken Samruk" JSC and Qatar Mining Company QSC, the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding between "Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund" JSC and the Qatar Investment Authority were signed.
