Karaganda court extends corrupt businessman's arrest

KARAGANDA. KAZINFORM - A court of Karaganda city has extended arrest of Deputy Director General of Kazakhstanskaya promyshlennaya korporatsiya LLP (Kazakhstani industrial corporation) Alzhan Akmoldayev up to four months - until February 20, 2015.
The extension of the arrest was sanctioned by Kazybekbiy district court of Karaganda city. Akmoldayev was arrested for allegedly embezzling a large sum of money. It is believed that Akmoldayev pocketed great sum of money during the construction of an industrial park in Karaganda city.
Initially, the corrupt businessman was arrested for two months. According to reports, Akmoldayev's spouse and children are currently in the U.S.
His case is not the first corruption-related scandal to rock Karaganda region. Ex-governor of the region Serik Akhmetov and other officials were charged with embezzling as well.
