Karabalin reports to President on results of Oil & Gas Ministry activity in 2013

ASTANA. January 20. KAZINFORM - Uzakbai Karabalin, the Minister of Oil and Gas, has reported to the President on the results of activities of the Ministry in 2013, the press service of Akorda informs.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted the importance of attracting investments and strengthening works on the innovative development of the industry and also drew attention to the necessity to create industrial clusters around large oil and gas fields and facilities.

During the meeting, the Minister presented to the President the Atlas of prospective oil and gas basins in Kazakhstan which was developed by a group of research organizations led by the Kazakh Institute of Oil and Gas. The Atlas allows to consider further work in promising regional exploration.

Moreover, the Minister reported on the results of full-scale study of 15 sedimentary basins of Kazakhstan as well as prospects of domestic exploration and creation of oilfield service cluster.

By the end of 2013 crude oil production in the country reached 81.8 million tons with respect to 2012 is 103.2%. Gas production for 2013 amounted 42.3 billion cubic meters and oil refining - 14.3 million tons. In 2014 it is planned to produce 83 million tons of oil, 41 billion cubic meters of gas and to process 14.7 million tons of oil.

Following the meeting the Head of State has given a number of specific instructions on the issues discussed.
