Japan, S. Arabia agreed to launch energy security task force
Japan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to establish a joint task force focused on energy security and stable crude oil supplies amid tensions in the Middle East, Qazinform News Agency cites Jiji Press.
The decision was made during an online meeting between Japan’s Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Ryosei Akazawa and Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud. The two sides are expected to begin discussions early next week as part of broader efforts to strengthen energy cooperation between the countries.
The agreement comes as concerns rise over potential disruptions to global energy markets linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis.
Earlier Thursday, Akazawa also participated in a high-level economic dialogue with the European Union in Brussels alongside Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horii. EU officials attending the meeting included Stephane Sejourne and Maros Sefcovic, who discussed trade, economic security, and industrial cooperation.
Previously, it was reported Japan secures a commitment from the UAE to bolster joint oil stockpiles.
