Japan, China, S. Korea agree to expand joint research on global environment

SHANGHAI. April 30. KAZINFORM Ministers in charge of science and technology from China, Japan and South Korea agreed on Saturday to expand joint research programs to help address climate warming and other global issues.
A joint statement released after the trilateral meeting in Shanghai said the three ministers agreed to expand research programs undertaken jointly by the three countries and increase government funding for joint research.
The ministers also urged the private sector to take part in the government-funded research programs, Kyodo reports.
Japan was represented in the meeting by education minister Hirofumi Hirano, who has jurisdiction over science and technology policies, China by Science and Technology Minister Wan Gang, and South Korea by Education, Science and Technology Minister Lee Ju Ho.
