Issues of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative require multilateral dialogue - Head of OSCE Center in Astana A. Keltchewsky
According to him, implementation of the EITI touches upon key aspects of economic and ecological well-being of the countries. Realizing the EITI principles the Government can benefit from improvement of the environment and conditions for investments. «Transparency and accountability attract investors by reduction of risks for investments. Such confidence assists to organization of open procedures and development of clear rules for all participants of the process», - A. Keltchewsky noted.
As the Head of the OSCE Center in Astana considers, it is important to increase transparency of social investment projects of extractive companies for achieving effective and stable economic development. Also it is necessary to attract community in the process of adoption of decisions regarding their realization. «Unfortunately, in spite of the measures taken by the Kazakhstan Government, huge job should be done to use the Transparency Initiative widely, especially in the regions. Issues concerning familiarization of the citizens with the EITI principles are still on the agenda», - A. Keltchewsky said.
«We provide assistance to the Governor of Mangystau region in establishment of a working group on transparency. Evidently, political will and participation of the governmental authorities becomes a key factor of success in solution of such uneasy questions. Besides, participation of public sector in ensuring transparency of the measures launched, as well as in creation of a constructive dialogue among all interested parties is of no less importance», the Head of the OSCE Center in Astana concluded.
