According to BBC, two car bombs exploded near a restaurant in Hilla, police and hospital sources say.

The first car bomb killed six people and wounded 20. A second blast minutes later killed a further seven people.

Baghdad has been hit by five bomb attacks and two shooting incidents, according to the interior ministry.

It is thought many of the dead in Baghdad were Shia pilgrims gathering for a religious festival.

There has been a wave of attacks on the Shia community in recent days, as it marks the anniversary of the death of Shia imam Moussa al-Kadhim.

Four people were killed near a religious shrine in Baghdad on Sunday.
