IPA CIS Council to hold first CIS Forum of Regions

SAINT PETERSBURG. KAZINFORM The Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states (IPA CIS Council) has made a decision to hold the first CIS Forum of Regions, Deputy Chair of the Permanent Commission for State Building, Local Government and Regulations of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valentina Zhuravskaya said.

"The forum is to be held in Saint Petersburg in 2016. Its major objectives include full-scale development of interregional cooperation, establishment of mutually beneficial economic contacts, and strengthening of partnership between the regions of the CIS member states," Valentina Zhuravskaya said.

The forum is expected to help encourage investments in the regions, promote small and medium-sized businesses, and expand cultural, scientific, and humanitarian cooperation. "The Forum of Regions will help unite the efforts of all the branches of government for the improvement of the legal framework of the interregional cooperation, including model legislation, and facilitate its faster implementation in the national legal systems," Valentina Zhuravskaya added, BelTA reports.

Partaking in the forum will be heads of executive and legislative branches of the regional governments of the CIS member states. Besides, the participants will include ministers, members of national parliaments, heads of chambers of commerce and industry, representatives of public organizations, businessmen, and scientists.

Valentina Zhuravskaya noted that the fact that the CIS will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2016 will make the event particularly important.
