Interpol refuses to issue arrest warrant for Bakiyevs

BISHKEK. January 6. KAZINFORM The international law enforcement group Intepol has turned down a Kyrgyz request to issue a "red notice" for the family members of ousted president Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the Kyrgyz 24.kg news agency said on Thursday. Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.

Interpol originally refused Kyrgyzstan's request in August, saying that the prosecution of the Bakiyevs was politically motivated, 24.kg said.
His son, Maxim, who is however on the Interpol wanted list, and other family members, are also being tried in absentia.
Maxim has been accused of instigating this summer's bloody clashes between the Kyrgyz majority and ethnic Uzbeks in the south of the country, in which at least 400 died. Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru for full version
