International conference with participation of religious leaders proposed to be held in Astana

ASTANA. November 2. KAZINFORM In the course of the meeting with Vice Speaker of Senate of the Kazakh Parliament Mukhambet Kopeyev in Mecca Secretary General of the Muslim World League Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsin Al-Turki has proposed to hold an international conference with participation of muftis and authoritative religious figures of CIS countries.

He expressed view that the forum can be held within the implementation of the Kazakhstan's initiative on announcing 2010 as International Year for rapprochement of cultures and religions' the press-service of the Senate said.

As earlier reported Vice Speaker of Senate of the Kazakh Parliament M. Kopeyev heads the Kazakhstani delegation in Saudi Arabia since October, 31.

On behalf of the leadership of Kazakhstan M. Kopeyev expressed gratitude to the MWL Secretary General for his personal participation in the III Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions held in Astana in July this year.

Having noted the importance of support of this authoritative international Muslim organization in organization of the Kazakh President's initiatives aimed at strengthening of interfaith and intercultural concord the Vice Speaker underlined the necessity of further development of the dialogue to address the issues of modern world.

The MWL Secretary General having highly evaluated the work of III Congress emphasized the relevance of the events held in Astana "which are right platform for discussion of topical issues of modernity raised by followers of different confessions and cultures".

According to him the leadership of Muslim World League will further support the convocation of next congress that was proved by its participation in 9th session of the Secretariat of the Congress scheduled in December next year in Astana.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Saudi Arabia K. Lama Sharif also participated in the meeting.
