International Centre of Cultures and Religions in Astana may be assigned new status

ASTANA. May 23. KAZINFORM /Gulnara Zhandagulova/ The UNESCO considers the possibility of assigning the International Centre of Cultures and Religions in Astana the status of the UNESCO Center, Chairman of the National Commission of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO - Almaty Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov said.

'Kazakhstan has been contributed to the development of the dialogue of cultures and civilizations for a long time. The activities of this country have been acknowledged worldwide. The UNESCO is currently considering a possibility of assigning the International Centre of Cultures and Religions in Astana the status of the UNESCO Center. The Center was established in order to popularize the ideas of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions which had been held in Kazakhstan since 2003. The success of this project will allow the Center to reach a new - global level which is also going to promote its recognition in the world,' I. Tasmagambetov said.

The Mayor also noted that the cooperation between Kazakhstan and UNESCO was very productive last year.
