Innovative method of carotid artery operation introduced in Astana

The method involves installation on a thin wiry construction in the form of a cylinder, acting as a stent frame, into the lumen of stenopaic vessel. They are made of special inert alloy in the form of a net, which straightens out inside the carotid artery and keeps its walls expanded. The operation is conducted under local anesthesia and lasts 30-40 minutes. After the operation patients in satisfactory condition are discharged from a hospital on the third day.

In addition, on the base of the city hospital №2 together with colleagues from Russia (Rostov-on-Don city) headed by an interventional surgeon held a master class on a topic "Carotid artery stent angioplasty" with proximal vessel defense to prevent postsurgical complications. Within the framework of the master class 5 operations were successfully conducted.

It's worth noting that emergence of patches on carotid artery walls is fraught with serious consequences. Patches are places of blood clots formation and full arterial occlusion, which leads to cerebral accident and death.
