Indonesian President reaffirms his anti-corruption drive
Conveying his remarks at the opening of National Summit here that gathers regional and central government officials, President Susilo said that he prefers to take corruption prevention measures rather than setting up officials to commit corruption and eventually arrest them.
He said that the efforts to eradicate corruption started to bear fruit during his first term administration. Many officials who committed corruption were jailed and had to face trials over their misdeeds.
President Susilo recalled that he received skepticism from several parties at home when he was about to commence his anti-corruption initiative in his government.
The president who received strong mandate from the public to continue his administration following his landslide win in the July 8 presidential election, said that Indonesia is in the right track but still faces long way to get rid of corruption in the country.
The government has already set up a powerful anti-corruption agency called Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) which has the rights to investigate and arrest officials committed in corruption.
