Indonesia's electoral commission officially announces presidential candidates

JAKARTA. May 29. KAZINFORM Indonesia's electoral commission on Friday officially announced three presidential candidates to compete on the July 8 presidential polls, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
Chairman of the commission Abdul Hafidz Anshary announced that the pairs were the incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his running mate former central bank governor named only Boediono, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, who is the chairman of Golkar Party, and his running mate former general Wiranto, and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is the chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of struggle (PDIP), and her running mate former major general Prabowo.
The three pairs would start campaign on June 2 up to July 4, according to the commission.
There are over 171 million eligible voters. A second round election would be held in September if no one candidate get a single majority at the first round.
The outcome of the polls could determine the performance of Indonesian reforms which are important for further improvement of the investment climate in the country which is struggling to reduce rising unemployment and boost economic growth, Kazinform cites Xinhua.
