NEW DELHI. January 10. KAZINFORM India's Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor, popularly known for courting controversy, Sunday slammed the media for "incorrectly" reporting his remarks on the country's foreign policy envisaged by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
Tharoor Saturday got into a controversy after the media reported that he debunked Nehruvian foreign policy as a "moralistic running commentary".
He clarified on Sunday saying that he was "misquoted" by the media.
"I was misquoted by media. This was an irresponsible report. I don't think the party has reacted in negative. India deserves better and frankly so do I," the minister said.
At a talk organized by the Indian Council of World Affairs on Friday, Tharoor had endorsed the criticism that Jawaharlal Nehru's foreign policy was a tad too preachy and gave India an exaggerated sense of importance, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.chinaview.cn for full version.
