Increased activity detected at Icelandic volcano

MOSCOW. May 7. KAZINFORM An Icelandic volcano which wreaked havoc in European airspace last month has sent up a new cloud of ash at the height of over 9,000 meters as its activity increased again on Thursday, Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.

Airspace restrictions affecting trans-Atlantic flights have been imposed as the ash plume reached the west of the British Isles.
"With winds likely to remain from the north-east into the weekend, the risk of the ash cloud affecting UK airspace in the next couple of days remains low," the U.K. Met Office said on its website.
According to recent forecasts the cloud would remain along Europe's Atlantic coast, from the U.K. to Portugal, but is unlikely to reach the continent by Friday morning, Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru for full version.
