In the next decade SCO will play an important role in safeguarding peace and stability in the region - Meng Jianzhu

"At the present time international and regional security is undergoing big changes. SCO is now facing new challenges," Meng Jianzhu said. In his opinion, the SCO has laid the foundation for further work in the field of security.

As previously stated by the Foreign Ministry of the People's Republic of China, the meeting will discuss issues of regional security, as well as the deepening of security cooperation within the SCO framework and carry out preparatory work for the summit of heads of state of SCO member countries.

After the meeting, Security Council secretaries are expected to sign the final documents. Today in the afternoon the delegations are scheduled to meet with China's Vice President Xi Jinping. Kazakh President's Aide - Secretary of the Security Council Marat Tazhin will participate in the meeting.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a regional international organization founded in 2001 by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
