In such uneasy political situation I must personally take decision on referendum - N. Nazarbayev

'On January 31 the Constitutional Council of Kazakhstan announced its decision regarding the amendments to the Constitution of Kazakhstan which aimed at extending powers of the country's First President at the national referendum. The adoption of this document was based on the will of the people of Kazakhstan who expressed their support to the President, N. Nazarbayev reminded.
'I rejected it by my Decree. Despite this the Parliament using its constitutional right adopted the corresponding Law', the President said.
'I submitted this Law to the Constitutional Council for consideration which declared the Law to be out of line with the Constitution', N. Nazarbayev said.
'I have thoroughly studied the issue and agreed with the decision. Thus, we have a complicated political situation when the Head of State has to take this responsibility personally and make a decision about the referendum himself', the President added.
