Hungarian football club director commits suicide
The club, which is based in Budapest and plays in the second division of the Hungarian league, has recently come under scrutiny from Hungary's Central Investigation Agency for its links to a match-fixing scandal that has engulfed Hungarian football since December 2009.
On Tuesday, six current and former players for REAC were taken into custody for questioning in connection with eight cases of suspected betting fraud. A further two are also suspected of involvement.
Kutasi was acknowledged as having taken part in the fight against match-fixing and betting fraud in Hungarian football. A number of his initiatives led to the Hungarian Football Association tightening its disciplinary regulations.
A statement from Kutasi written just before he died on Thursday appeared in the Friday edition of Nemzeti Sport, a leading daily sports newspaper.
"My life is over. What I fought for has come to nothing," the statement read. "This club has become beaten down by filth. What I worked for has been ruined by people that I trusted. I fought heavy weapons with a catapult and have come to realize now that I have lost."
