Horse marathon honoring First President to cross Kazakhstan in 40 days

TALDYKORGAN. July 25. KAZINFORM The Horse Marathon of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan kicked off in Taldykorgan on Tuesday (July 23). The race is dated to the 25th anniversary of the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Union of veterans of Afghan war of Almaty region reports.

Seven horseback riders are to cross five provinces of Kazakhstan and cover the distance of over 3300 km during the 40-day horse marathon.

"The route that passes through Almaty, East Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, Akmola, and Zhambyl regions has been clearly mapped out by the organizers. 55 stops along the route have been planned as well. Participants of the marathon - professional horseback riders, journalists, peace keepers, medical workers and others - will be accompanied by a police escort," said Shormak Ilyassov, the Chairman of the Union of veterans of Afghan war of Almaty region.

The organizers of the event are the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Nur Otan National Democratic Party and the Internal Affairs Department of Almaty region.
