Heads of Kazakh and Russian governments hold talks in Almaty

A meeting between Kazakh Prime minister Alikhan Smailov and Russian Head of Government Mikhail Mishustin took place in Almaty. The talks were held ahead of the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the Kazakh head of government.

The sides discussed a wide range of issues of interstate cooperation in the spheres such as trade, investment, industrial cooperation, energy transport and logistics, agriculture, and education.

In particular, the issues of transit of Kazakh coal through the Russian territory as well as elimination of problems of the entry of Kazakhstani carriers in Russia were discussed in detail.

Smailov pointed out that tanks to the political will of the heads of the two states the relations between Kazakhstan and Russia develop progressively and on principles of mutual respect.

Russia is one of the main trade and economic partners of Kazakhstan, exemplified by the impressive trade turnover which hit 24 billion US dollars in 11 months of last year, he said.

According to him, Kazakhstan attaches great attention to the development of cross-regional and cross-border cooperation, with the Cross-Border Cooperation Forum serving as an effective platform.

I’m certain that this year will be rich with joint events and mutual contacts at different levels. The Kazakh government is ready to carry out full-scale and mutually beneficial cooperation in all directions, said Smailov.

For his part, Mishustin thanked for the traditional hospitality and noted that Russia priorities the strengthening of mutually beneficial relation with Kazakhstan.

Our countries jointly realize major investment projects in the industry, mechanical engineering, energy, petrochemistry, transport infrastructure, digital economy and many other spheres. We suggest speeding up establishment of new production chains, the good base for which can be mutual complementarity of economic, production and technological capacities of Russia and Kazakhstan, said the Russian head of government.
