Heads of government of CIS, EurAsEC Interstate Council to meet in Minsk 19 May

Meetings of the heads of government in three formats are scheduled for 19 May. This day a session of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government will be held followed by a sitting of the EurAsEC Interstate Council on the level of the heads of government. Besides the EurAsEC Interstate Council (supreme body of the Customs Union) featuring the heads of government of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia will be held.

The previous session of the EurAsEC Interstate Council (supreme body of the Customs Union) on the level of the heads of government was held in Minsk on 15 March 2011. The session discussed the formation of the Single Economic Space (SES); an agreement was reached to remove the transport control from the Belarusian-Russian border and relocate it to the external border of the Customs Union.

In December 2011 the formation of the legal framework of the Single Economic Space was completed. The heads of state of the Customs Union signed a Declaration on the Formation of the Single Economic Space in Moscow on 9 December 2010. In line with the document, the SES will be fully operational on 1 January 2012; Kazinform cites BelTA.
