Head of State praises transformation of election authorities through years of independence
The international science-to-practice conference “Constitutional reform and election system” dated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s central election system is underway in the Kazakh capital. Advisor to the President Yernar Baspayev read out the welcoming speech by Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the participants of the conference, Kazinform News Agency reports.

In his welcoming address, President Tokayev highlighted the gradual transformation of Kazakhstan’s election authorities throughout the years of Independence and their contribution to shaping of the most important institutions of state power.
According to the Head of State, cooperation with international partners has been strengthened and open dialogue with the society has been established. Given the world's best practices, specific measures have been taken to raise the professional level of territorial commissions as well as to improve their work and determine status of each member.
The President went on to note that the ambitious constitutional reform which had won support of the majority of the country’s population at last year’s nationwide referendum allowed to modernize the national election system.
He expressed confidence that the conference will give a chance to put forward new approaches to the development of election legislation.
The conference brought together heads of central election commissions from 10 countries and 6 international organizations.
