Head of State opens locomotive assembly plant in Astana

ANA. July 3. KAZINFORM /Valentina Yleizarova/ Opening of a locomotive assembly plant on the territory of Astana industrial park has been held today. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the opening ceremony.

First start-up facility of the plant was presented to the President. "Two years ago on July 3 I laid a capsule of this enterprise. And I am pleased to know that the construction was accomplished in time", N.Nazarbayev said.

As President of "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" National Company" JSC Askar Mamin noted, the Company works on further industrialization of the railroad sector, increasing the Kazakh content in products, produced and consumed by the Kazakh railroad.

First pilot locomotive will be assembled from component parts, supplied by "General Electric" Company. According to A.Mamin, accomplishment of assembling of the pilot locomotive is scheduled for December 2009. "27 locomotives are planned to be produced during 2010. Planned capacity of the plant is 150 locomotives per year", he informed.
