Head of Kazakhstan Chess Federation praises Kazakhstan’s triumph at World Youth Rapid and Blitz Championships
Held from December 14 to 16, 2024, at Terme Čatež, Slovenia, Kazakhstani chess players showed outstanding results at the World Rapid and Blitz Championships for youth (U14–U18). Elnaz Kaliakhmet and Daniyal Sapenov each won two gold medals for the team, with the overall score of ten medals, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the Kazakhstan Chess Federation.

With over 320 participants from 36 countries, the event also featured one grandmaster, four international masters and dozens of FIDE masters. After the hosts and Croatia, Kazakhstan was represented by the third largest delegation with 16 players.
Timur Turlov, President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, highlighted the significance of the results, stating: "This year continues to please chess fans. We have a record number of medals, most of which were won by very young players. The World Rapid and Blitz Championships among youth was no exception and gave a new reason for pride. I congratulate the chess players, their coaches, and parents on their great results. I am sure this is only the beginning of a great sports journey."
Young talents from Kazakhstan particularly excelled in the blitz tournament on December 16, where Kaliakhmet and Sapenov secured their gold medals. In other categories, the group also captured one silver and two bronze medals.
