Kazakh Government sets up commission to determine Zhomart mine’s collapse causes

The commission is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev, Kazinform News Agency has learned from the press service of the Kazakh Government.

Under the instruction of Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, a special commission has been established to investigate the causes of the accident and provide assistance to those affected by the mine collapse in the Zhanaarka district of the Ulytau region.

As reported earlier, seven workers were trapped inside an underground shaft at Zhomart mine in Ulytau region. The incident occurred at around 4:50pm local time 150km away from Zhezkazgan town. The personnel of the Ulytau and Karaganda regions’ emergency situations departments, consisting of canine teams, specialists from the Disaster Medicine Center and psychologists, left for the incident site.

Three ambulance crews were sent to the scene. According to Kazakhmys, communication with the trapped miners has been lost due to the severing of cables.
