Google unveils AI-focused Googlebook laptop line
The company said Googlebook combines elements of Android and ChromeOS, bringing together Android apps from Google Play with Chrome’s browser experience in a system designed specifically for AI-powered features and closer integration with smartphones.
Google described the devices as the first laptops created “from the ground up” for Gemini Intelligence. One of the main features is Magic Pointer, an AI-powered cursor tool developed with the Google DeepMind team. The feature provides contextual suggestions based on what users point to on the screen.
“Point at a date in an email to set up a meeting, or select two images - like your living room and a new couch - to instantly visualize them together. It lets you go from idea to I’m done in just a few clicks,” reads the blog.
Another feature, called Create your Widget, allows users to generate custom desktop widgets using prompts. Gemini can connect with services such as Gmail and Calendar to organize information into personalized dashboards, including travel details, reservations and reminders.
Googlebook is also designed to improve connectivity between laptops and Android phones. Users will be able to quickly access phone apps while working on their laptops and browse files stored on their phones directly from the laptop’s file manager through a feature called Quick Access.
The first Googlebook devices will be produced in partnership with major hardware companies including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. Google said the laptops will feature premium materials and a distinctive “glowbar” design element.
The company plans to share more details later this year, with devices expected to become available in the fall.
