Gold extends gains for fifth session

Gold rose for a fifth consecutive session on Wednesday, WAM reports.

Spot gold was up 0.3 percent at $4,341.12 per ounce, as of ​0230 GMT, trading near a one-week high hit on Monday. US gold futures for ​August delivery rose 0.2 percent to $4,361.10.

Other ​precious metals also extended gains, with spot silver rising 0.3 percent to $70.38 per ounce, platinum rose 0.5 percent to $1,812.80, and palladium ​was up 0.3 percent at $1,355.65.

Earlier it was reported, markets shifted sharply late Sunday and into Monday following news of a peace agreement between Washington and Tehran, brokered by Pakistan.
